My Horse Grooming Kit Essentials for 2021

What should be in a grooming kit for horses? As a first time horse owner but someone who has been around horses my whole life, I have been slowly building up a grooming box of my essential tools and favourite items. Watch me unpack my box below and go through the items I love (and the ones I’d never buy again!). Scroll down to read more and find product links.

My Grooming Box Favourites :

  1. HAAS Groooming Brushes

If you had told me a year ago that spending £13 on a body brush was a good idea, I would have laughed in your face. I’m now eating my words after receiving a HAAS body brush as part of a gifted Equestrian Mystery Box from Neddy & Co. My HAAS Diamond Gloss body brush is my absolute favourite grooming item. Not only is it soft enough for delicate areas such as the face, but it adds a stunning shine to Woody’s coat when used in conjunction with my rubber curry comb, plastic curry comb and dandy brush. Whilst the prices might put you off buying a whole set, I think they make great gifts, particularly if you choose one of the bushes designed for a specific coat colour.

2. Gold Label Shampoo With Lightener For Greys

I’ll be honest, I first started using this shampoo purely because it was halfway between the cheapest shampoo in the tackshop and the most expensive - and I’m so glad I did. I have since gone on to buy it multiple times over. With a horse like Woody who has so much white, particularly ono his legs, you really have your work cut out to get them clean. I typically use this shampoo in conjuction with an old body brush or a HAAS Kombi brush on Woody’s legs and the results speak for themselves - picture below.

3. NAF Plait It Up Plaiting Gel

This was one of those purchases I was sure I would regret - do you really need plaiting gel? No. Is it worth the money? Absolutely. When added to a mane before plaiting, this gel comes out like a foam and adds grip to the mane, making it easier to plait without being over-sticky or leaving the mane feeling hard.

4. Carr & Day & Martin Belvoir Tack Cleaner & Conditioner

I’ve always been very picky about what cleaner and conditioner I’ll use on my tack, so when Naylors invited me to try the Carr & Day & Martin Belvoir Tack Cleaner & Conditioner as part of my partnership with them for the Shires Velociti Bridle, I was intrigued. It has now become my favourite tack cleaner. I use the two-step process daily on my tack, boots and leather headcollar. It leaves my tack feeling supple and shiny, without adding an unpleasant greasy layer.
